Moved by the plight of homeless people, victims who died while other people were out of food, Wallace couldn't contain his frustration and broke down in tears while he was live.

“It's hard to hear a statement like we heard now and not get emotional. Charging R$93 for a liter of water in the situation we are in here is unbelievable. There are gestures of solidarity much greater than this greed that we saw now”, vented the reporter.

He reported the situation he was experiencing in Topolândia, in the city of São Sebastião. The reporter said that people were removing mud from their own homes and the cities did not have enough infrastructure to support the victims.

Procon issues abusive price alert

Not only did the liter of water reach an absurd value, the markets also increased the value of basic foodstuffs. In the social media, users complain about high food prices in the city. A 5 kg bag of rice was sold at R$ 29.99 in a market in São Sebastião.

With the various complaints, Procon-SP issued a new one about the abusive increase in prices of basic necessities, such as medicine, food, water, fuel and others. The manifestation of taking advantage of the consumer's fragility is prohibited, which makes the practice illegal through the events.

Wilton Ruas, Executive Director of Fundação Procon-SP, says that abusive price increase practices happen when there are no justifications to raise the value of products, stating that “it is aggravated in situations of extreme fragility of the consumer, as in the case of the tragedy that hit the north coast of SP, a consequence of the heavy rains that devastated the region".

Complaints may be registered at the Procon website.
