The mayor of Ilhabela expressed concern about erosion in the region of the islands. He decided to bid for works with the aim of expanding sand strips on several beaches in Ilhabela. This measure aims, in addition to increasing the stretch of land on the beaches, to provide more comfort, leisure and safety for tourists and residents. It also aims to increase space and reduce the risk of flooding in surrounding streets, in addition to revitalizing the waterfront.
Primarily, the region called Perequê is where the greatest point of concern is located. This is due to the fact that the invasion of the sea is a risk for people, as it reaches the sidewalks and houses.

Recently, the INPH and Ilhabela City Hall received a letter from the INPH authorizing the start of studies for the elaboration of the referred project, requesting some demands, which are: hydrographic survey, survey of the profiles of local beaches, analysis of sediments both on the surface and on the high and low tide stops, analysis of the deposits, among others, all determining procedures for calculating the cost of the work to be carried out, which is estimated at approximately R$ 20,000,000.00 (twenty million real).
