Being a housewife is still attractive for women in Japan

During the last few years, it is clear that the number of women entering the labor market has increased worldwide. This eventually became the norm in Japan, although in Japanese culture, the woman ends up becoming a housewife after the birth of her first child or soon after marriage.

The departure of women from the job market to the life of a housewife has ceased to be the obligatory path to follow, but Japanese women still manage to see some attraction in this lifestyle. At least that's what the information from a survey done recently in the country points out.

Understand the research done recently in Japan

The data was released by sony life insurance Co. The survey is called the Annual Awareness Survey ofStyle in LifeFemale and is in its seventh edition. To carry out the study, a thousand women aged between 20 and 69 years old had to answer the question: “would you like to be a housewife?”

The results show that one in three answered “yes”. See the survey results below:

  • Women aged 20 to 29 years

Yes: 33%;

No: 40.6%.

  • Women aged 30 to 39 years

Yes: 43.4;

No: 33.3%.

  • Women 40 to 49 years old

Yes: 30.3%;

No: 41.4%.

  • Women aged 50 to 59 years

Yes: 28.7%;

No: 50%.

  • Women 60 to 69 years old

Yes: 24.1%;

No: 51.8%.

  • Total of all ages

Yes: 35.2%;

No: 40.6%.

If you analyze it carefully, you will notice that most of the women who answered “yes” the most are still considered new. For older women with more experience, this lifestyle is not very attractive. Perhaps because they have been entirely in the job market for years and do not see themselves having this life, but this is just a hypothesis.

The same question was asked again to the interviewees, but now I take into account whether or not they have children.

These were the results:

  • women with children

Yes: 30.6%;

No: 40.6%.

  • childless women

Yes: 35.2%;

No: 40.6%.

They were also asked if they thought working women suffered from social disadvantages. About 67% believe that they suffer while only 8% think that they do not experience disadvantages.
