Scientists approve the consumption of honey to reduce bad cholesterol

Studies carried out in Canada point out that honey, although it is composed of 80% sugar, is considered a healthy food, because, in addition to complex sugars, it is full of proteins, vitamins, minerals and amino acids good for health.

To gain access to the benefits, the researchers indicate the consumption of natural honey, produced from the nectar of flowers. Thus, the consumption of honey obtained from floral sources, raw and unprocessed, is the best way to improve cholesterol.

Published in the journal Nutrition Reviews, the study compares with the results obtained in other studies. who analyze the influence of honey consumption on the cardiovascular system and on the reduction of bad cholesterol in the blood. There were more than 18 scientific publications with the study.

What is cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a fat naturally produced by our body. However, when it is in excess, it can act as a risk factor for the onset of cardiovascular disease and other associated issues, such as stroke.

Thus, ideally, blood cholesterol levels should be below 190mg/dl, with bad cholesterol below 115mg/dl and good cholesterol at levels above 45mg/dl.

What is the recommended amount of honey to consume?

According to researchers, it is recommended to ingest an amount of honey equivalent to 40g per day, which is approximately two tablespoons of food.

Thus, it is possible to reduce fasting blood glucose, which is the amount of sugar present in the blood, triglycerides, as well as reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase the level of good cholesterol (HDL).

It is important to remember, however, that in addition to honey, it is necessary to maintain a healthy diet, with regular physical exercise. This recommendation aims to ensure not only good levels of cholesterol in the blood, but also the good maintenance of the whole body, with a reduction in the risk of diseases such as obesity.
