The news will soon be published in the Official Gazette and many Brazilian citizens are already celebrating the possibility of driving in Lusitanian lands with the national license of Brazil. So far, only citizens of countries like: United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and United Kingdom have this right.
This is a benefit for Brazilian citizens residing in Portugal, even more so in this period when many see new life possibilities in Europe, as they will not need to create a new document in the country that grants the right to to drive.

Changes since the release
This past Wednesday, the 13th, the Portuguese president, Marcelo Rabelo de Sousa, validated the National Driver's License for Portuguese territory. Thus, Brazil fits into the following nations that have the freedom to drive using their own country's license.
They are: Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste, as well as national from Australia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, South Korea, Costa Rica, United States, Israel, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Switzerland and Türkiye.
This measure, somewhat belated, when thinking about the whole history that involves Brazil and the Portuguese, will also benefit the drivers from the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and others from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
What was it like before the change?
Before the sanction of the law, Brazilian citizens had a period of 90 days to exchange the Brazilian CNH for the Portuguese one. As soon as this three-month period ended, the right to drive was restricted and would only be released again after the completion of the new documentation.
The Portuguese document has a value of 30 euros and its renewal is mandatory every two years.
Now, with the sanction of the law, the new qualification can be used until the end of its validity in Portuguese territory. As soon as the validity expires, the citizen will need to renew the license in Portugal.
