Exercises important for health: 6 minutes to prevent Alzheimer's

Researchers at the University of Otago in New Zealand conducted a study that proves the benefits of short but intense exercises. They can not only help to strengthen health, but also help to prevent a critical illness. Published in The Journal of Physiology, the study was carried out by researchers at the University of Otago in New Zealand. The goal was to find the best possible way to increase the production of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) and so, they managed to discover that intense exercises in short periods is the most effective way that exists of that production.

What is BDNF?

BDNF or brain-derived neurotrophic factor is the essential protein in the process of brain formation and consequently, its connections and pathways. So, studies show that the greater the availability of this protein, the greater the stimulation of memory production and storage, in addition to improving the learning and development process cognitive.

Therefore, the need arises to find ways to have a good level of this protein in the body, and therefore, the pharmaceutical industry has already started with the commitment to produce drugs that help in this process, but still without success.

How did the search go?

The process followed 12 people and different ways of producing BDNF, including fasting for 20 hours, 90 minutes of low-intensity activity and 6 minutes of heavy exercise. Being the low-intensity ones in light cycling and the high ones, heavy cycling for 40 seconds and 20-second breaks. In addition, they also tested the practice of fasting with exercises.

After that, the researchers were able to attest that although it was in a short period of time, heavy training for 6 minutes was the best option to produce the BDNF protein.

The lead author of the research, Travis Gibbons gave a statement: “We saw the need to explore non-pharmacological approaches that can preserve brain capacity that humans can use to naturally increase BDNF to help with aging healthy".

What's more, it's also been proven that short 1-minute daily jogs are great ways to extend your life.
