You must have heard around that cats are sensitive animals, with the antenna tuned “in the other side”: who can see spirits, clean the energies of the house and the owner and who know when they go to die. Also, who run away and hide when they know their end has come.

Many feline owners say that this really happens and that they have witnessed situations like this. There are many reports of cats caretakers and companions who, overnight, run away from home and never come back.

But is this really true? This is what we are going to try to understand in this text.

Do cats run away when they know they are going to die?

The portal Best friends talked to the trainer André Poloni on the subject. According to the professional, there is no way to say that cats run away so that the owner does not see their end. “Many [cats] don't do this, and they die in their own home,” he said.

In addition, Poloni explained that there is no way to say with 100% certainty that cats know when they are going to die. “But we know that they are capable of detecting wounds and infections in other individuals through their nose”, he underlined.

The trainer also said that cats are able to perceive the opponent's “weakness” by their behavior and gait. Therefore, they would know how to identify when another living being is weakened. But predictions of death are something outside the purview of furry ones.

But then why do they hide?

“Because they live alone in nature, cats end up being cautious when it comes to getting into a fight”, began André. “[They] go for it if they think they're going to win, but when they show weakness, others take advantage of that time to throw you out.”

Therefore, he believes that it is a cause for concern if your cat hides – if he is not used to doing so. After all, we know that some pussies are very playful and they like to hide to “scare” the owner or other kittens.

Cats also have the habit of being more "in their own" when they are hurt or in pain. Therefore, it is also important to pay attention when your animal behaves like this.
