Off hours are extremely flexible
Waiting 1 year to be able to take vacations and work every day of the week, obligatorily for a pre-defined schedule, is not part of of the reality of Microsoft employees, who now, after the company adopted LinkedIn's vacation system, have days off unlimited.
Microsoft is not the only big company to decide to adopt this system of days off, something similar has already been adopted by Netflix and Oracle.
How it works?
The system was named by the company “discretionary clearance”. According to Microsoft's director of human resources, Kathleen Hogan, with this new system, employees will no longer need to wait for 1 year to take their vacation or even register when they are on day off. However, for those who decide not to take their vacation, they will be financially rewarded for doing so.
For all its flexibility, Microsoft still demands a high standard of delivery from its employees. The director of human resources still makes a point of highlighting:
“While we are taking a more flexible approach to absentee time and now you no longer need to register holiday hours, we must all ensure that we maintain the highest standards of our work and honor our commitments”.
The new model will be available to all company employees in the United States, except hourly workers. The discretionary time off also includes 10 corporate holidays, leave of absence, time off due to health issues, whether mental or physical, and time off for jury duty and bereavement.
Microsoft decides to improve Bing
In addition to the good news for its employees, consumers and fans of the company will also be honored. The company decides to try to chase Google and improve its search service, Bing. The intention is to use the ChatGPT to show the results.
