Security issues are the app's main issue
ByteDance is a Chinese technology company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming. The company is known for creating popular social media platforms including TikTok, Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) and Toutiao, a news aggregation app.
If the sale does not happen, TikTok may even be banned from the country, but there is no forecast, for now, that this will impact Brazil.
concerns of americans
According to Americans, TikTok poses a danger to the country's security due to the risk of data leaks. There are approximately 150 million users in the country, and a ban on the app in the country would have a major financial impact on the company.
Last Thursday (23), the CEO of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew, underwent an interrogation in the US Congress to answer questions related to the security and privacy of the app.
However, even after Chew reiterated that the platform does not share user data, that did not convince Americans.
Another concern related to the app is the issue of inappropriate content reaching children and teenagers. Some deputies claimed that the company fails to filter this type of material for minors.
Impacts on the platform
A possible ban could bring extensive damage to TikTok, influencing the billing not only of Bytedance, but also of several other related companies.
If a law is imposed, Google and Apple would have to remove and block platform updates in their app stores. This means that without updates, the app would lose functionality within devices.
Regarding Brazil, it is still not possible to say that the processes that are taking place in the US can have an impact. So far, no Brazilian authority has commented on the subject of a possible ban on the platform in the country.
