How does the Olympics work?
Basically, the competition aims to work on scientific concepts, pedagogical activities and even local realities. Thus, through proactivity among students, it intends to stimulate the production of works and greater visibility for pedagogical and socio-environmental issues throughout the national territory.
By sharing actions among the participants, the organizers intend to bring more learning opportunities to Brazilian education. Because of this, the Olympics have been successful since their first edition, held in 2021. There were more than 3,000 students from 17 states in the country producing scientific content about ocean culture. Even so, 2022 promises many novelties that may attract even more researchers.

Now, 45 students from public schools will be able to apply for Junior Scientific Initiation grants from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. For this, it is necessary to participate in the “knowledge” modality of the Olympics and to stand out among those with the highest scores in the evaluations. In addition, the selection also takes into account a balanced distribution of scholarships among the regions of Brazil, 60% of which are for girls.
Including the students and works that are awarded, including those in the project, socio-environmental and cultural production, will also have their names highlighted and projects published on the official website of the Decade of Ocean Science – Brazil. Dates
Until September 9, 2022, interested parties can register and apply for one of the three available modalities: Knowledge, Socio-environmental Project and Artistic, Cultural and/or Technological. Furthermore, the Olympics will feature 4 themes: Women in Science: Fishing and artisanal architecture; Climate change; and bicentennial of independence.
