The first event will have a walk along the Historic Trail, which can also be visited on the 9th, 16th and 23rd of this month. According to the management of the place, more than 50 points will be included in the program, passing through several artistic monuments and the collection of botanical species.
Within the route of the Historic Trail, there are famous places such as the orchid garden, the Amazon region, in addition to the traditional Wallace fountains and the Sítio Museum Archaeological House of Pylons.
In the area crossed by the Rio dos Macacos, there is one of the largest arboretum collections in the country, containing monumental trees and leguminous plants, all placed by the naturalist Adolpho Ducke. After being in the northern state of the country several times, the specialist made his contribution to the Botanical Garden.
The arboretum contains several extremely rare species that only exist in specific regions of Brazil, such as rubber trees, andiroba, mahogany and chestnut trees. Many of them are endangered and can be seen on the tours.
At the Archaeological Museum, the visitor will learn about the history of the place where a branch of the Real Fábrica de Pólvora production, created in 1808 by Dom João VI, operated. On the site, the compaction of gunpowder was carried out, considered the most dangerous step in the manufacturing process.
In 1982, the museum was transferred so that the place could be renovated and later, in 1994, it returned to the Sítio Casa dos Pilões. The collection was reopened for visitation, with the property completely restored and ready to tell the story through objects.
How to schedule the free visit
There is no charge for visits to the guided trails. There is a small fee to enter the arboretum.
