Between 300 and 400 Burger King restaurants are expected to close by the end of 2023, with underperforming stores being the first to close during the coming months. The performance of each franchise will depend solely on factors surrounding the location, as informed by the president of Restaurant Brands International (RBI), the company that coordinates Burger King.

Burger King to close more than 200 restaurants in the US
When these franchises fail to keep up with the main development of the company, which is gigantic, they are promptly discarded from the business. This means that they need to renew the structure of the stores and exclude those that do not make a profit. Patrick Doyle, president of RBI, said that this perspective comes from operators who are not dedicated enough.
“There will always be a minority that isn't dedicated to enthusiastic operators, and that's fine […] we're going to work with them to leave the system and move on to do something else. There simply is no room for franchisees who are unwilling or unable to work hard to operate better-than-system-average restaurants over the long term.”
Latest records have shown that Burger King consistently closes around 200 stores a year, so the 300-400 range is considerably high. Josh Kobza, CEO of the company, said that there are still no certain numbers about how many restaurants will be affected by the decision, but which will certainly close the stores that produce less as a priority.
Another piece of information that seems somewhat alarming is two Burger King franchisees that have filed for bankruptcy, TOMS King and Meridian Restaurants Unlimited. Meridian alone will close about 27 restaurants in the United States.
For now, Brazilians can rest assured! Information includes franchises in Michigan, Wyoming, Utah, North Dakota, Nebraska, Montana and Minnesota.
