Recently, a survey carried out by NordVPN, a specialist in cybersecurity, released several data on the consumption habits of Brazilians on the internet. Some of these revelations are very interesting, such as the fact that the average time connected to the web in Brazil is almost 14 hours. Because of this, with a life expectancy of 75.9 years, each person spends more than 41 years on the internet during their lifetime.

How was the research done?
Basically, in January 2022, the company gathered Brazilians over 18 years old for a series of interviews. According to the responses, they came to the conclusion that, on average, these people connect from 8:33 am to 10:13 pm daily on the internet. It's a calculation of 91 hours of weekly use, which equals 197 days a year.
These numbers are mostly invested in entertainment. In total, there are 72 hours on social networks, games and streaming apps, where they watch series and movies. Furthermore, of the people who will spend most of their lives on the internet, almost 50% depend on it for most of their hobbies.
For this reason, 36% of respondents cannot imagine themselves without internet for a day. This is a clear sign that society, especially in Brazil, is increasingly dependent on worldwide computer network for your tasks, both for leisure activities and for work.
Indeed, it is for this reason that increasingly large companies in the technology market invest in the virtual world, such as the controversial NFTs and the creation of the “metaverse” by Facebook. Therefore, this number of daily hours connected to the internet will only tend to increase, as there is massive investment in this universe.
The problem with cybersecurity
The problem is that, in addition to many hours connected, Brazilians have very little concern for virtual security. Because of this, it is very easy to find leaked data on the web, such as date of birth, address, marital status and, in some cases, even bank information.
This happens because it has become a habit to share personal information excessively, mainly due to the growth of social networks. Furthermore, it is very common for people with less education to fall for malware transmitted through suspicious links, especially on WhatsApp.
