Sometimes in your newsroom you may have read little messages like: lack of cohesion or confusing text!
First, let's recall the concept of cohesion: it is what has logic, which forms a harmonious, coherent whole. That's why the connection between cohesion and coherence is so talked about!
Therefore, everything you write, be it a note, a message or a text, must have a connection!
You might think: so it's very easy, because it's rare to find a person who writes something and nobody understands anything!
That's where the mistake happens! The lack of textual cohesion is very frequent and, as it is essential for reading, it is one of the basic requirements in the assessment of selection processes!
But what are the characteristics of a cohesive text? Let's look at it as follows:
When you speak, you make use of some resources that are parallel to language, such as: gestures, gaze, facial expression, voice intonation, sounds, etc.
In writing there are no such features, so what to do? Well, the question is to use and observe three key points:
1.Connectives: are conjunctions that link one sentence to another, that allow a period to have a connection with another. There are many: But, however, however, however, therefore, since, since, soon, then, in turn, therefore, but also, in spite of that, because, therefore, so, provided that, that way, so that, so that, so that, and many others.
2.syntactic structures: Check if the verbs are arranged properly and if they have the desired meaning; check the verb complements (in the case of the verbs that need it) and the use of prepositions.
3.long periods: Analyze if there are very long periods, as they are the biggest responsible for the textual confusion. Prefer to use short, objective sentences or if you need to use a more explanatory sentence, don't forget to use connectives!
It's easy to get lost in the words when we write! But it's not difficult to review your text and be aware of the three issues mentioned above!
A cohesive text can be the cause of your approval in an entrance exam or any other type of contest!
