Studies show that a healthy environment can help children develop

The mentioned study, presented in the Revista Pediatrics, demonstrated that the family ties are linked to an individual's prosperity, not just survival or avoiding harm. The study included 37,025 children aged 11 to 13 from 26 countries. Care, support, security, respect and participation were the five aspects that determine the family bond.

Participants received a statement for each topic and were asked to rate how much they agreed with it, ranging from zero (disagree) to four (strongly agree). For example, to assess the level of care, children were asked how much they agreed with the statement “I feel safe at home”.

What did the results indicate?

The researchers found that teens who claimed to have a close relationship with their family were also successful in life. Therefore, the essence of a family connection this is when children feel accepted and respected at home, allowing them to learn about their strengths and weaknesses in a safe environment while developing their identity.

When it comes to flourishing, it's about children accepting their strengths and weaknesses and then being able to use their strengths to find their life's purpose. Compared to children with the lowest level of family connection, those with the highest level of connection were 49% more likely to succeed at the end of the tests.
