It's the law: women victims of violence in bars in SP will receive help from employees

A new law was established by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) throughout the state of São Paulo. It began to take effect last Saturday, 4. Since then, it has continued to ensure that women abused in any way in bars, restaurants, nightclubs, events and parties in general are properly assisted by the local team. The law made assistance to women in public places mandatory and was published in the Official Gazette.

The law came into effect after the case of Brazilian national team player Daniel Alves came to light for sexually assaulting a woman in a Spanish nightclub. The inspiration to enact the law in the state came through the measures applied in Spain, whose name is “No Callem”. Spanish law indicates the situations in which help should be given to these women. That's how it became possible to identify the case of violence committed by the player.

Brazilian law ensures that women are assisted

The text of the law belonging to the deputies Damaris Moura (PSDB), Coronel Nishikawa (PL) and Marcio Nakashima (PDT) is ensuring that women at risk in establishments should be aided. Therefore, it is not possible to omit help. The police must be called or accompanied by the woman so that protection is guaranteed.

The law guarantees that posters are placed in the women's restrooms so that they can trigger the site security in these criminal cases, making it possible to avoid situations even more serious. In the case of the nightclub that rescued the woman who was sexually assaulted by the soccer player, the venue strictly followed the recommendations laid down by law. That was how they even managed to identify the case of rape by Daniel Alves.

After the act of violence, the woman informed an employee of the establishment who promptly called the ambulance so that she could be attended to.

As for the new approach, the governor of SP stated new measures for the state:

“The government of São Paulo will carry out responsible work aimed at protecting women and the family. We are going to take care, pay attention to priority health policies, social development, entrepreneurship and, especially, the fight against violence against women”, said Tarcísio de Freitas.
