Back to life: 6 amazing animals that could be resurrected

With advances in genetics, scientists are able to sequence the genome of animals extinct in order to bring them back to life through cloning. For this, it is necessary to find a practically intact fossil in order to be able to extract its DNA and present the current species for gestation. So, look at some animals that can be resurrected!

Here are some animals that can be resurrected.

The extinction of animals occurs for many reasons, such as natural conditions or even the influence of human activities. With the advancement of knowledge about genetics, the possibility of bringing these extinct species back is ever closer.

However, it is worth noting that this is not an easy task and there are many scientific and ethical barriers to this process. We list in this article 6 extinct animals that could come back to life. Check out:

  1. woolly mammoth

It was one of the last species of mammoth to become extinct. They inhabited the north of the Earth and lived in very cold places. Therefore, there are soft tissues of this species frozen, but still very well preserved.

  1. tasmanian wolf

It is considered the largest carnivorous marsupial to date. The Tasmanian wolf has suffered from human presence, as this species has a very low genetic diversity, which makes it not very adaptable to changes. The wolf's extinction is "recent", and there are still intact specimens of the animal stored in jars.

  1. Pyrenean Ibex

It was the first extinct animal to return, via a cloned fetus that contained the DNA of the last ibex. implanted in the uterus of a live domestic goat, which was the only one out of 154 goats to complete the process.

However, the ibex died of lung failure seven minutes after birth. Even so, this feat opened the doors to programs for the preservation of extinct species through cloning.

  1. saber-toothed tigers

Thanks to the icy habitats these creatures occupied, fossil specimens of this species still exist today. However, it is not yet clear whether there is enough ancient DNA to create a database.

  1. moa

These birds are similar to rheas and ostriches, but without any trace of wings. This species became extinct about 600 years ago in New Zealand, however, its feathers and eggs are still relatively intact. Therefore, scientists have already managed to extract the bird's DNA using eggshells.

  1. dodo

The dodo's extinction occurred within a few years of its discovery. Its original habitat had no natural predators, so it did not develop effective defenses in its evolution. This lack of instinct led to their extinction by sailors, who hunted them for food.

Scientists hope to recover the dodo if they can collect enough DNA data to implant it in the eggs of the closest species, the pigeon.
