Marine discovery: Demon shark with glowing eyes emerges in Australia

After a decade since collecting a dead pregnant female, a new species of shark deep sea with bright white eyes off the coast of Western Australia.

The discovery was made with enthusiasm among marine scientists and reveals yet another fascinating addition to the diversity of marine life.

The shark known as the “ghost” was initially misidentified and only recently recognized as a new species, the correct one.

This discovery came when scientists re-examined the strange egg capsules that had been stored in museums for several years. Understand!

The newly discovered species, which was documented in a recent study published in Journal of Fish Biology on April 23, received the name of Apristurus ovicorrugatus. The name chosen by the scientists refers to the characteristics found in the litter ten years ago.

This nomenclature highlights the importance of egg case peculiarities in the discovery and classification of this new species of deep-sea shark with bright white eyes.

In addition to their unique egg cases, the species also has an unusual and distinguishing feature: bright white irises. This particular eye coloration adds even more uniqueness to this newly discovered deep-sea shark species.

According to the study's lead author, Will White of the CCommonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), the characteristic bright white iris is not common in deep-sea species.

Just another species, Apristurus nakayai, found in New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea, shares this trait. This information was communicated by email by Will White to live science.

In 2011, an intriguing discovery was made by researchers: an unusual egg case containing a shark embryo.

Despite identifying that the shark belonged to the Apristurus genus, it was evident that the egg case did not correspond to any known species at that time.

This discovery aroused curiosity and challenged scientists to unravel the origin and unique characteristics of this shark species.

Apristurus is a genus of shark belonging to the cat shark family. These sharks are widely recognized as "ghost sharks" or "demon sharks".

With approximately 40 known species, the genus Apristurus it is considered one of the most diverse in terms of the variety of shark species. Their unique nomenclature reflects the distinctive characteristics of these fascinating marine predators.
