Bones discovered in Goiás are important for the cultural study of the region
The excavation operation, which started in December 2021, involved more than 20 professionals from eight national and international institutions, with the support of the Federal Police (PF).
This interdisciplinary collaboration and involvement by authorities ensured a careful approach throughout the fossil discovery and recovery process.
Based on preliminary studies, the fossil is estimated to have an age of between 11,900 and 11,700 years before the present, however the precise date will still be determined through further research for an even closer conclusion it needs.
These discoveries are of great importance, as they point to evidence about the first inhabitants of the cerrado of Goiás and contribute to the understanding of human history in the Brazilian region, since the evolution of society is always looking for new answers to its development.
The skeleton is valuable, because if the age of almost 12 thousand years is confirmed by science, the human remains could be considered the most ancient objects already found in the central-west region of Brazil, placing them in the same temporal range as other objects discovered between the 1970s and 1990.
