According to scientists at Northwestern University, in Illinois, in the United States, there is not only one personality type, but at least four. From these standard personalities, it is possible to develop countless variations.
However, personalities are consolidated based on 5 main traits:
- Extroversion: Preference for the company of people over loneliness, good ability to speak in public and absence of extreme shyness;
- Neuroticism: Predominance of aversive and negative feelings that can be expressed in the form of anger, anxiety and melancholy;
- Open: These are people who are not in a position to be afraid of situations and run away from their bad experiences. On the contrary, these people believe in the possibility of learning from risks;
- Conscientiousness: People concerned with punctuality and social rules, which is an important point for emotional stability;
- Kindness: People who usually agree with everything that is said for fear of exclusion and conflicts between others.
From these five traits, the personalities formed by the combinations of these traits with greater or lesser predominance of some of them are established. As a result, four main personality types are established.
