"Get your finger out of there!" Picking snot out of your nose can lead to Alzheimer's

No need to answer out loud: you have a habit of taking nose snot with the finger? If so, maybe it's time to rethink this activity. That's because recent studies suggest that people who pick their nostrils are more likely to develop Alzheimer's and other degenerative diseases of the nervous system. Espresso coffee is an ally in the prevention of Alzheimer's, says research

The study was done by Griffith University in Australia. Scientists have identified, in mice, that "exploring" the upper airways can "invite" a bacteria called Chlamydia pneumoniae to live in their brain.

In addition, they also found a correlation between central nervous system infection and Alzheimer's.

Bacteria in the brain? How does it work?

According to scientists from the Australian university, when the bacteria enters through the nose, it begins to circulate through the body. Brain cells perceive all movement and produce a protein called beta amyloid.

And it is responsible – in very specific concentrations – for being an indicator of neurodegenerative diseases. As stated earlier, the study was only conducted in mice – at least for now.

However, Professor James St John, one of the research leaders at the Australian university, explained that this situation is completely possible to happen in human beings as well.

And if you think that's the end of it, you're wrong. The bacteria can take a shortcut to your brain through the wounds your finger makes when you pick boogers out of your nose.

Do you understand? YOU CANNOT pick snot out of your nose with your finger!

Not only for Chlamydia pneumoniae, but for several other bacteria. Remember that human hands are full of germs, especially on the fingers and under the nails.

And, let's face it, even after the Covid-19, we still haven't learned how to sanitize our hands properly.

The University of Australia goes above and beyond! James St John also advises against plucking nose hair, as this damages the lining of the airways.

“If immunity is weakened and the mucosa is damaged, microbes can end up in the brain, causing bacterial meningitis. Typical symptoms are fever, headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to light and mental confusion.
