Nobody bid! Pokemon card up for auction for $480,000

It's 'Illustrator Pikachu', the rarest card in the entire world. Because it was rarer, it also became the most valuable among cards. In 2019, one of these collectibles sold for $224,500 through Weiss Auctions, while another such card sold for $375,000 on eBay in 2021. Another person, in a recent 2022 case, said he paid 5 million to acquire the product.

Auction took place, but no one bid

In the midst of so much novelty, high market prices and auctioning a rare handcrafted Pokémon card, something expected happened. Collectors are on the move looking for rare pieces from the vintage universe and it seemed like the handcrafted Pikachu was beyond price. The auction initially bid $480,000 for the rare letter.

That's when eBay announced to all the press that the occasion would happen and shook everyone with the news. Several websites were available to cover the event, trying to profit from the negotiations of the collectors. The auction lasted from the 24th of February until the 6th of March, but no one bid.

Now, the rare items market for Pokémon fans may be taking a bit of a hit. Was the lack of bids driven by high value or is the market cooling off? Despite this, there are other options that will be offered to fans of the drawing until the end of 2023. As 'The Pokémon Company' indicated, they will again release a holographic of Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise.

As there is no “price” in the game, a Charizard was sold for US$ 420,000 last year.
