A survey conducted jointly by CommBank and telecom provider More showed that 90% of Gen Zers have anxiety when talking on the phone.

For them, an uncomfortable connection is among the things they most want to avoid in life. As a result, this created an interesting shift in their relationships.

while the millennials feared getting a breakup call, Gen Zers are ending their relationships via text message.

In fact, 1 in 5 young people heard have ended a relationship this way. For them, typing a farewell message is a polite way to end the cycle.

This behavior may seem cold to older generations, but it must be considered that younger people connect in different ways.

While only 1 in 10 of Gen Z prefer to communicate over the phone, 80% of them still place importance on staying connected as one of their top priorities.

Why do Gen Z's prefer texting over calling?

Fear of confrontation and aversion to conflict are pointed out as the main reasons behind this choice when it comes to ending a relationship.

Sending a message allows you to avoid the emotional roller coaster of a phone call and makes the situation less uncomfortable for yourself.

However, possible problems such as typos, misunderstandings and inability to communicate can complicate the situation.

Thus, it is important to review messages before sending them, to ensure that the message transmitted is, in fact, the one the author intended.

While more experienced members of society may find it insensitive to end a relationship over text, for young people in Generation Z, is a normal way of doing things these days and with the means of communication available.

The truth is that the way of relating has evolved along with the advancement of technology and each generation adapts according to the tools it has.

It is necessary to understand the different ways of relating, maintaining respect between all parties, regardless of the way chosen to communicate.
