Teacher is found dead inside the school – and the situation is more serious than it seems

A 23-year-old elementary school teacher was found dead inside the school where she worked in the Seocho-gu neighborhood of Seoul, capital of Seoul. South Korea. According to preliminary information from the local press, the educator would have taken her own life and the reason is more surprising than you can imagine.

The Seoul Metropolitan Education Office (the equivalent of the Education Departments of Brazilian municipalities) confirmed the teacher's suicide, but the police are still investigating the case.

The teacher's body was found last Wednesday, July 19. On the same day, the Seoul Teachers Union issued a notice stating that the teacher was suffering psychological abuse of powerful fathers and mothers whose children were in their class.

According to the union entity, an incident that happened the week before would have been the last straw. A student cut another's forehead with a pencil during one of the teacher's classes. After that, parents showed up at the school to confront the teacher.

She would have heard phrases like “You have no right to be a teacher”.

The Seoul Teachers Union has requested that the Seoul Metropolitan Education Bureau investigate the situation properly. The agency asked the country's Ministry of Education to also participate in the process.

Rumors about the teacher's abuse began to circulate in the mainstream South Korean press. As soon as the matter began to take on this proportion, the school where the educator worked issued a note asking that people stop sharing “unconfirmed rumours” so as not to “harm students or defame the deceased”.

However, the school's attitude caused even more revolt among the population, culminating in speculation that the teacher's death was being covered up by "powerful forces behind the scenes".

Furthermore, according to the website koreaboo, one of the parents who abused the teacher would be an influential politician in the municipality. The buzz would have blown the name of deputy Han Ki Ho, but he has denied any involvement in the tragedy.

“I would like to emphatically deny my involvement in this incident in which my name was mentioned. Members of my family do not attend school,” the politician said in a statement.
