Gen Z is increasingly stressed and depressed at work, study finds

A survey carried out by healthtech Vittude revealed that Generation Z in Brazil is facing high levels of anxiety, stress and depression in the workplace.

The survey, which involved the participation of more than 24,000 workers, revealed that one in four employed people aged up to 25 consider themselves anxious, while the same proportion claims to be depressed.

These numbers contrast with previous generations. Only one person in 20 Baby Boomers (people over 60) says they are anxious, and one in thirteen of Generation X (aged 41 to 60) report stress.

These data point to a significant increase in mental health problems in Generation Z, which requires attention and action by companies and society in general.

Tatiana Pimenta, CEO of Vittude, suggests that the increase in these mental disorders may be related to greater contact and familiarity with technology.

Generation Z is the first to grow up in a digital environment from birth, and the overload of digital platforms, tools technologies and constant exposure to information and demands can contribute to the increase in cases of burnout, anxiety and depression.

Pimenta points out that companies need to consider mental health as a priority and integrate emotional care into their programs for employees.

Another study conducted by Cangrade, a recruitment company focused on Artificial intelligence, revealed that Generation Z youth are not happy with their work.

This dissatisfaction may be related to the fact that many younger professionals occupy junior positions in companies, which can lead to frustration and unmet expectations.

In addition, Generation Z faces additional challenges, such as the impacts of the Covid-19, high financial debts, excessive use of social networks and rising cost of living. All of these factors contribute to a stressful and challenging work environment for young people.
