Myocardium: what it is, functioning, problems

myocardium is the name given to one of the layers that form the wall of the heart. This is the thickest layer, constitutedThe by cardiac striated muscle tissue. Several health problems can affect the myocardium, such as myocarditis and myocardial infarction.

Myocarditis is characterized by inflammation of the heart muscle. Myocardial infarction is currently considered the leading cause of death in Brazil and happens as a result of the death of heart muscle cells.

myocardium summary

  • The wall of the heart is made up of layers, with the myocardium being the middle layer.

  • The myocardium is made up of muscle tissue cardiac striatum.

  • In the myocardium is spread a system capable of controlling the cardiac rhythm.

  • Myocarditis is an inflammatory response of the myocardium.

  • Myocardial infarction is a problem that causes several deaths every year in Brazil and worldwide.

  • This condition is characterized by the death of heart muscle cells due to interruption of blood flow to that area.

What is the myocardium?

Myocardium is the name given to one of the tunics that form the walls of the heart, which is made up of cells heart muscles. The orientation of muscle cells in this layer is very varied, and it is possible to observe in the same section cells arranged in different directions. The myocardium is the thickest layer of the heart and is located between the endocardium and the pericardium.

Some cardiac muscle cells are capable of contracting and relaxing without the nervous system stimulate them, a characteristic that makes them called self-rhythmic. In the myocardium is spread a system capable of controlling the riheart rate, providing the organ with a coordinated contraction.

The so-called sinoatrial node consists of a cluster of cells that produce electrical impulses similar to those of nerve cells. These impulses propagate rapidly through the cardiac tissue and diffuse along the walls of the atrium.

As atrial contraction occurs, electrical impulses generated by the SA node reach another set of autorhythmic cells, which are present in the wall between the left and right atria right. These cells form the so-called atrioventricular node.

In the atrioventricular node, impulses are delayed for a brief period, thereby ensuring that the atria empty before the ventricles contract. Posteriorly, signals produced in the atrioventricular node are transmitted, via Purkinje fibers and bundle branches, to the apex and through the ventricles.

Myocarditis

Myocarditis is a inflammatory response of the myocardium that usually occurs as a consequence of a infectdog. Among the infectious agents that cause the problem, the virus, the virus causing the Covid-19 one of those responsible for triggering myocarditis.

Myocarditis has recently been linked to covid-19 and post-vaccine reactions against this disease.

After Reports of this problem as a result of vaccination with immunization against wovid-19 of mRNA, myocarditis gained worldwide news. This event, however, is considered a rare response to the vaccine, and most patients with this post-vaccine reaction responded well to treatment.

Myocarditis can cause symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations and shortness of breath. In more severe cases of this problem, myocarditis can lead to heart failure.

Currently, myocarditis is considered a challenge for Medicine, as not easily recognized through clinical examinations and there is no standard exam for its diagnosis.

myocardial infarction

O heart attack myocardial infarction, also popularly known as a heart attack, is a condition characterized by death of heart muscle cells due to à interruption of blood flow for that area. One of the causes for this interruption is the formation of clots.

When we talk about myocardial infarction, the most common symptom is discomfort in the chest area, which can radiate to the left arm. The pain is intense, prolonged and usually accompanied by a feeling of heaviness in the chest area. The patient may still experience shortness of breath and fainting sensation.

It is worth noting that, in some patients, pain may not appear, which means that the infarction may take longer to be diagnosed due to the lack of specific signs.

Risk factors for myocardial infarction are considered to be sedentary lifestyle, smoking, inadequate nutrition, high levels of cholesterol It is stress. Therefore, investing in healthier lifestyle habits is the key to preventing this problem. Currently, myocardial infarction It is considered the biggest cause of death in our country..
