This happens mainly in the case of energy resources, such as oil. In countries dependent on the primary sector of the economy, which comprises mineral extraction, mineral resources become sources of income and are important for local socioeconomic development.

Mineral resources and environmental problems

Despite the great economic importance of mineral resources, the its unrestricted exploitation causes damage to ecosystems and compromises the balance of environment.
