The Holocaust Victims Memorial
The idealization of the construction of the Memorial to the Victims of the Holocaust in Rio de Janeiro took place more than 30 years ago. The person responsible was former councilor and former state deputy Gerson Bergher.
The initiative is the responsibility of the Holocaust Memorial Cultural Association. The Consulate of Germany is a project partner.
The external area of the memorial was inaugurated in the year 2020. It contains a monument almost 20 meters high. The structure is divided into ten parts, which represent the ten commandments. On its base is written "Thou shalt not kill".
The visit to the internal space is divided into three modules, according to the period of time.
1st module: Visitors will be able to learn about the lives of families before Nazism. Artificial intelligence tools are used in the exhibition and allow the recovery of images from the time in color.
2nd module: As visitors approach the space of the second module, the images are taken in shades of gray, without colors. People's struggle for survival is an obvious theme.
3rd module: finally, the exhibition highlights the reconstruction of life after the violence of the holocaust.
