The King of Football: Pelé dies aged 82

Pelé, known worldwide as the soccer king, died this Thursday (29), at the age of 82, in the city of São Paulo.

The greatest athlete in the history of Brazilian football could not resist the complications resulting from a cancer of colon that caused multiple failure of the organs. He leaves six children.

At the end of November, he was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo. At the time, the middle team began a reassessment of chemotherapy against the colon tumor and treatment of a respiratory infection.

Vila Belmiro, a stadium located in Santos (SP), will host Pelé's wake. The player played in Santos football club for 18 years.

He should be buried at the Ecumenical Necropolis Memorial, in Santos.

Pele: the king of football

Pelé began his football career at the age of 11 at Clube Atlético de Bauru. At 16, the miner from Três Corações (MG), began his career at Santos Futebol Clube.

A year later, in 1957, he was the top scorer in the Campeonato Paulista, scoring 36 goals.

His time at Santos (1956 to 1974) was marked by several achievements. They were ten state titles,six national championships, two Copa Libertadores It is two Club World Cups.

For the Brazilian national team, Pelé became the youngest soccer player to take a world Cup.

His first championship title came at the age of 17, in the 1958 World Cup, held in Sweden. On the occasion, the athlete scored six goals and was the best Brazilian scorer in this tournament.

The player starred in the famous Golden Era of the Brazilian National Team between the years 1958 and 1970. During this period, there were three World Cup titles out of a total of four competitions.

Next to him were Zagallo, Vavá, Garrincha, Didi and Nilton Santos.

Throughout their career they were more than 1,200 goals scored. There were 95 goals with the shirt of the Brazilian national team, according to the count of the Brazilian Football Committee (CBF) and 77 according to the calculations of the International Federation of Associated Football (Fifa).
