Arthrosis is a rheumatic disease that degenerates the tissues and cartilage present in the joints, causing pain, joint deformity and limitation of movement. Also called osteoarthrosis, it occurs mainly in the joints of the knee, spine, hips, hands and fingers, and may also influence the appearance of the parrot's beak.
It is believed that arthrosis can occur through heredity, cell abnormalities, metabolic changes, trauma and mechanical factors. The disease is detected through radiographs. It may be asymptomatic, but usually presents signs such as pain, difficulty in moving the area, stiffness in the area, noises in the joints, swelling and lack of firmness.
Arthrosis manifests itself mainly in individuals over 30 years of age. In women, arthrosis occurs more severely and more frequently. Arthrosis usually occurs near the nails, thumb and feet (bunion).
Treatment for the disease should start as soon as possible for best results. Pain relief can be achieved through stretching exercises, posture, muscle strengthening, physical therapy, analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs. There are cases where it is necessary to inject medication directly into the joints. There are others, still, that it is necessary to carry out surgeries for the implantation of joint prostheses in order to improve movement and relieve pain.
The joints that suffer from the disease must be kept warm, because in the cold the tendency is for the pain to be stronger and more frequent. When hiking, it is important to stop to rest if you feel pain.
