The Ministry of Culture launched a public notice for the Carolina Maria de Jesus Prize for Literature Produced by Women 2023.
The initiative will reward 40 unpublished works written exclusively by women (cis or transgender).
Of the selected works, at least 20% will be by black women, 10% by indigenous women, 10% by women with disabilities, 5% by gypsy women and 5% by quilombola women. The judging panel will also be entirely female.

Carolina Maria de Jesus Award Applications
Registration for the Carolina Maria de Jesus Award will be free and will be open from April 12 to June 10, 2023, at Cultural Maps system.
Works in the short story, chronicle, poetry, comics, novel and theater script categories, written in Brazilian Portuguese and unpublished, are eligible.
The candidate must enter only one unpublished work in only one category. The value of the prize is BRL 50 thousand. The result will be published in the Official Gazette.
Candidates need to pay attention to publications and reports regarding the award.

Who was Carolina Maria de Jesus
Carolina Maria de Jesus was a Minas Gerais writer born on March 14, 1914. The artist wrote about her daily life in the Canindé favela, in the North Zone of São Paulo.
The publication of her diaries began in 1958, when she met the journalist Audálio Dantas. In the 1960s, the writer became nationally known with the publication of her book Quarto de despejo: diary of a favelada.
Carolina Maria de Jesus died in 1977 and is considered one of the most important black writers in Brazilian literature.
