A balanced diet helps in controlling diabetes.

According to the Brazilian Diabetes Society, O stress can directly change blood glucose, and this can happen in two ways. First, stressed people tend not to take care of themselves properly, which causes many not to eat well, not practice physical activity and even abuse alcohol.

The second way stress affects blood glucose, according to this society, is through hormones of stress, so mental stress can raise or lower blood glucose very much in cases of type 1 diabetes, and in type 2 diabetes, levels tend to increase.

types of diabetes

There are different types of diabetes mellitus, and, according to the Brazilian Society of Diabetes, the most recommended classification is the one based on its etiopathogenesis. According to this classification, we have:

  • type 1 diabetes: O type diabetes 1 most commonly affects children and adolescents and is the result of the action of antibodies that attack insulin-producing cells. This type of diabetes is not associated with weight and obesity.

  • Type 2 diabetes: O diabetes type 2 is considered the most common and is related to obesity and aging. In this case, the patient produces insulin, but its action is hampered, a condition known as insulin resistance. The body then starts producing more insulin in order to keep glucose levels in their normal range. When the body is no longer able to control this balance, diabetes arises.

  • Gestational diabetes: As the name suggests, Gestational diabetes is a type diagnosed during pregnancy and may or may not be transient.

  • Other types of diabetes: Other types of diabetes are rare and are related, for example, to genetic problems, endocrinopathies, diseases of the exocrine pancreas and the use of certain medications.
