Applications of centripetal force in spines and depressions

THE centripetal force it is present in our daily lives on several occasions. This type of force is responsible for changing the sense and the direction of vectorvelocity. like vectors velocity and centripetal force they are perpendicular to each other, this kind of strength is not able of modifying the speed of the body. Check out in this article how the centripetal force behaves in situations where a piece of furniture is on spines and depressions.

spines

spines are elevations found in stretches where drivers want slow down. When passing over a spine, the compression reaction force (normal force) exerted by the ground becomes more intense, increasing its influence on the suspension of vehicles, which can damage it over time. Note in the figure below the diagram of forces acting on a vehicle that passes over a spine:

Analyzing the figure above, we can see the action of two forces that act on the vehicle: normal force, strength weight and its resultant: the centripetal force. THE centripetal force

, its about resultant gives difference between normal and weight forces and should always point to the center of curvature. Adopting as positive the sense of centripetal force, in this case it can be calculated using the following expression:

Speed bump

Subtitle:
FOR
– strength weight (N)
N – normal reaction force (N)
Fç – centripetal force (N)
m – body mass (kg)
v – body velocity (m/s)
R – radius of spine (m)

Through the last equation shown above, it is possible to see that the normal force on a spine it's bigger than the normal force exerted on a vehicle moving in a horizontal plane, that is, without any inclination. In the first case, the normal force modulus is given by the vehicle weight plusof centripetal force modulus. In short, a passenger inside the vehicle under these conditions would have the feeling pressed against the back of your seat, as a result of the increase in normal strength.

depressions

Have you ever felt that butterflies in your stomach when the vehicle goes downhill steep? This feeling comes from the inertia of our internal organs, which tend to remain at rest or move in a straight line with constant speed. When entering terrain with large holes or depressions, the force exerted by the ground on the vehicle tends to be smaller, as a result of the direction It's from sense gives resulting centripetal force.

Look at the figure below and check a diagram of the forces exerted on a vehicle during its passage through a depression:

When analyzing the figure above, we can, again, notice the action of two forces. THE resultant of these forces, the centripetal force, however, points up, pointing to the center of curvature. In this case, we can calculate it using the following expression:

Depression

In this case, we realize that the Normal force is given by the difference between centripetal forces and weight. Therefore, the force exerted by the ground on the vehicle has its decreased module.
