Why can stutterers sing without stuttering?

Many people are stuttering and find it difficult to communicate verbally. The games made on top of this flaw are diverse, many even embarrassing the individual.

Medicine treats stuttering as dysphemia (alteration in the pronunciation of words without damage to the vocal tract). Its main characteristic is to make the individual repeat syllables and/or make long pauses when pronouncing words. A fact that doesn't normally happen when a stutterer sings, as our brains process speech and singing in different ways. The speech process involves the translation of linguistic thought within the optimal time of linguistic speed, whose oral language is necessary so that the praxis involved in the articulation of language occur synchronously and appropriate. This temporal segmentation processing ability in the stutterer's brain is affected. The definition of stuttering is not so simple, as there are several theories that try to explain it, including Bloodstein's; stuttering is the result of the speaking individual's inner struggle reaction.

There are three types of stuttering: Hereditary, Aphasic, Bilingual, Tonic Language Delay and Schizoid. The stutterer can sing without any difficulties because the singing does not have a self-expressive speech (one that does not need to be worked on before pronounced), as the rhythm and lyrics of the song already exist, leaving only the interpretation for the stutterer, so he won't have to process the speech to sing.

Stuttering is treated in different ways in speech therapy, so giving scares or anything else like that to a person who stutters will not cure it. Only a professional can provide treatments for stuttering, as he is able to help control and even cure stuttering, depending on the case.

There are many stutterers who are famous, among them we highlight: Aristotle, Charles Darwin, Marylin Monroe, Napoleon Bonaparte, Nelson Gonçalves, Machado de Assis.
