O Brazilian territory is located in South America, has a territorial extension of 8,514,876 km² and is the fifth largest country on the planet, it is only smaller than the territories of Russia, Canada, China and the United States, respectively.

It comprises 26 states and 1 Federal District, divided into five regions. The regions and their respective member states are:

South region: Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina;

Southeast region: Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro;

Midwest region: Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Distrito Federal;

Northeast regionTourist attractions: Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe.

North regionAttractions: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins.


Brazilian territory

Its area corresponds to approximately 1.6% of the entire surface of the planet, occupying 5.6% of the emerging lands of the globe, 20.8% of the area of ​​the whole of America and 48% of South America. Its large territorial extension gives the country a border with almost all South American countries, only Chile and Ecuador do not border Brazil. For these aspects, Brazil is considered a country with continental dimensions.


The area that corresponds to Brazil presents 4,319.4 km of distance in the east-west direction, the extremes are the Serra Contamana, to the west, with a longitude of 73°59’32”; and Ponta do Seixas, to the east, with a longitude 34°47’30”. The extremes in the north-south direction are 4,394.7 km away and are composed of Mount Caburaí, in the north of the territory, with latitude 5°16’20”; and Arroio Chuí, to the south, with latitude 33°45’03”.
The Brazilian territory is located, in its entirety, west of the Greenwich meridian, therefore, its area is located in the western hemisphere. The equator runs through the extreme north of Brazil, making 7% of its territory belong to the northern hemisphere and 93% are located in the southern hemisphere.
