Introduction to the Brazilian Cerrado

The Cerrado biome represents 25% of the national territory, being found in Goiás, Tocantins, Distrito Federal, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Piauí, Rondônia and São Paulo, being the country's second largest biome in area, only surpassed by the Amazon Forest.

The poverty of nutrients in the soil, which is deep and rich in aluminum and iron oxides, the climate and the occurrence of fire confer characteristic plant formations and, consequently, characteristic fauna, giving the Cerrado a high level of endemisms.

Its vegetation presents physiognomies that include forest formations with arboreal species, predominantly formations. savanna, with trees and shrubs under grasses and grassland formations, with a predominance of herbaceous species and some shrubs.

However, unfortunately, only about 20% of the biome area has not yet undergone disturbance. human beings, mainly regarding the occupation and exaggerated and unsustainable use of landscapes. natural. As for the fauna, fires, running over, indiscriminate hunting, pesticide poisoning are the main factors that compromise it and, obviously, agricultural activities cannot be left out and, related to them, fires and the indiscriminate use of pesticides.
