Timor-Leste is a country on the Asian continent located east of Timor Island. It is one of the youngest countries in the world, its independence took place in 2002. The territory of that nation covers an area of ​​14 874 km², where about 1.1 million inhabitants live.

The country's surface is quite rugged, the highest point being the Tatamailau, which is 2963 meters high. The predominant climate is tropical, with rainfall influenced by monsoon regimes, causing frequent landslides and floods.
The country's economy depends on the export of coffee and oil extracted from the ocean. At the beginning of that century, about 90% of the population lived from agriculture.

The population has a high ethnic-cultural diversity, considering that there are more than 30 languages, several dialects and different architectural styles.
