Attested Textual Genre: structure and models

A certificate is a type of technical writing, which is why it has very particular characteristics that differ from literary writing.

It is a document in which formal language is used, and the information is objective and concise.

Much like the declaration, the certificate serves as a means of proving a situation, so it must be signed and dated.

As for its form, the certificate can be more or less elaborate according to its purpose.

Examples are:

  • criminal record certificate
  • Certificate of good background
  • Death certificate
  • Medical certificate
  • Proof of technical capacity
  • poverty certificate

Structure

In documentary terms, it must be printed on headed paper or stamped by the company responsible for issuing it.

  • Title: Certificate;
  • Identification of the person who requested the certificate: name and identity number. Depending on the case, it is advisable to add marital status, nationality, profession, CPF number and residence;
  • Description of evidence: indication of what the person needs to prove with the document;
  • Place and date;
  • Signature of the person responsible for issuing the certificate (issuer).

I certify that (name of the person who requested the certificate) was in consultation at this clinic in the period between ____ and ____ hours and who is not able to work for reasons of (description of the health problem), and must remain at rest for 3 days.

Certificate of Good Background

I attest for the proper purposes that (name of the person who requested the certificate, marital status, nationality, profession), bearer of (number of identity) and CPF (CPF number), residing in (full address) is a reputable person, unaware of any fact that discredits his conduct.
