Agribusiness comes from the English word agribusiness and represents the set of agricultural and industrial activities on the way from the field to the final consumer.
Today, agribusiness is among the biggest job generators in the world. This represents a danger for the environment, especially due to the adoption of the intensive production system.
Brazil
Agribusiness is one of the most profitable activities in the world. In Brazil, the sector represents 23% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product), according to the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).
In the last 25 years, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), the planted area grew 53% and production 260% and productivity increased 135%.
The products with the highest value in Brazilian agribusiness are: cotton lint, rice, beans, corn, soy complex (grain, bran and oil), coffee, sugar, orange, meat, cellulose and paper.
Cotton
Cotton production takes place in crops in Mato Grosso, Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul. Rice is grown in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Tocantins, Mato Grosso and Maranhão.
Corn
We are second in corn production, only behind the United States. The grain crops are installed in Mato Grosso, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo.
Soy
The country stands out in the production of the soy complex, ranking first in grain sales, followed by the United States. It also ranks second in the production of soy meal and soy oil, whose leadership is occupied by Argentina.
Our soybean production is in fields in Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Goiás, Minas Gerais and Bahia.
Sugar cane
We are also leaders in the production of sugarcane, planted in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Sergipe, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará.
Pulp, Wheat and Orange
Among the successful production experiences is pulp and paper through the so-called planted forests, found in Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo.
From Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul comes wheat and orange is offered by São Paulo.
Beef
Among the products that also share space among those with the highest income for national agribusiness is beef. The Brazilian herd is the second largest in the world, led by India. It is, however, the first in the production of chicken and the fourth in pork.
The national production of meat occurs, in order of herd size, in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, Goiânia, Paraná, Rondônia and Rio Grande do Sul.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, everything indicates that agribusiness will continue to be a thriving market in the coming years:
What is?
Agribusiness made the rural landscape change. In the past, the idea of the countryside as backward areas was used, but the production of food on an industrial scale has completely changed this.
The system involves a complex production chain, which is the path taken by a product from its elaboration to the final consumer.
Agribusiness logistics are included in this interval, made up of companies and industries set up exclusively to help each step of this system.
For example, the beef that arrives on the plate involves the manufacture of a series of unthinkable products for the consumer. First we have the stables, pastures, feed, etc.
Also, the selection of the best animals, reproduction and hygiene care. There are also tools, medicines, transport, slaughter, cutting and distribution machinery.
Professionals
Agribusiness is a sector that employs 12% of the country's economically active population, which accounts for 35% of jobs in Brazil. Data are from the 2015 National Conference on Agriculture.
In addition to technicians, agribusiness employs specialized professionals such as veterinarians, agronomists, agronomists, chemists, biologists, etc.
For each of these items there are companies and professionals who work at different times. In the path of the meat production chain is the generation of many jobs and, above all, profit.
