How does energy reach your home? Why is she able to light a lamp? These are questions that you will now clarify through our study on “The Electricity Route”.
Electric Energy can be defined as the working capacity of an electric current. It all starts at the power generation plant, there are huge turbines that move by the action of water (hydroelectric) and produce energy with high voltage (700 thousand volts) so that it can travel long paths until our residence. This is the most used way of obtaining energy in Brazil, it is responsible for supplying 70% of the electricity consumed throughout the country. The rest is provided through processes not relevant in this context.
To reach our house with voltages of 110 and 220 volts, the energy goes through transformers that are located on poles throughout the city. Wires come out of these devices and carry electricity to you.
But how is this energy able to keep light bulbs lit? Incandescent lamps, for example, have a filament inside that allows the passage of electric current giving rise to light.
Some important definitions:
- The electric current is equivalent to the movement of electrons by a conductor;
- The power in Watts determines the energy consumption in a given period.
The latter is obtained through the clock installed in our house, and through this it is possible to measure how much we consume during the month.
Conclusion: The route of electricity is nothing more than the journey of electrons along wires conducting energy.
