Grade of adverbs. How is the grade of adverbs characterized?

Are you willing to know one more novelty that the Portuguese language has in store for us? So we will, from now on, talk a little about the degree of adverbs. Do you remember when we studied about adjectives? If not, it doesn't matter, just remember! And for that, just access the text "Adjectives", OK?

As you can see, one of the characteristics of this part of speech is that the adverb can vary. There we notice one of these variations, that of degree. But by what degree?

When we talk about degree we are referring to the augmentative and the diminutive, words that are not foreign to you, right? Well, if we wanted to attribute a quality to someone, saying that this person is intelligent, we could not simply say:

He is “smart” / He is “smart”.

We should say he is very smart or very intelligent, does not agree?

So it is with the adverb, which, as we know, represents that word that modifies the verb, the adjective or the adverb itself. And he, like the adjective, also varies in degree. Let's know how this variation takes place?

The degree of adverbs is subdivided into two categories: comparative and superlative

comparative degree

* Equality comparison:

Pedro laughs as loud as his brother.

* Comparative of inferiority:

Pedro laughs less loudly than his brother.

* Comparative of superiority:

Pedro laughs louder than his brother.

superlative degree

* Analytical absolute superlative:

Pedro laughs very loudly.

* Synthetic absolute superlative:

Pedro laughs out loud.
