Tiago went camping with his father and some colleagues. Tiago's father was responsible for guiding everyone, he was the oldest and with experience in this type of situation, as he was a lieutenant in the Brazilian army.
He introduced the boys to the compass rose and a compass, objects that would be mainly responsible for the location in the forest area. He explained to them that the main locating points are called cardinals: North (N), South (S), East (L) and West (W). There are also collateral points: Northeast (NE), Northwest (NO), Southwest (SO) and Southeast (SE).
Tiago's father told the boys that the compass is an object that has the North region as a reference, but in the absence of compass everyone can locate themselves with the directions of the compass rose, to do this just create your own mechanism of localization.
Step 1: Point your right hand to the position where the sun rises (East).
Step 2: Point your left hand to the position where the sun sets (West).
Performing these two procedures, your nose will point to the North position and the back of the head will be facing the South region. This way you will make use of cardinal points as the main location coordinates.
If you want to use the side points, just remember the following positions:
The Northeast (NE) is between the North and the East.
The Northwest (NO) is between the North and the West.
The Southwest (SO) is between the West and the South.
The Southeast (SE) is between the South and the East.
Location points are widely used on sea and air routes. Military troops are also set in motion via location coordinates. Rally races and airplanes use sophisticated equipment called GPS, which provides real-time location of competitors.
