Today it is possible to buy a television, a video game, a refrigerator, cars and properties in installments, that is, in installments. Many people choose to buy in installments thinking they are getting a good deal, but are unaware of the “danger” behind these financial transactions. It turns out that when making a purchase in installments, the amount paid at the end can be much higher than the original price of the product, due to the interest contained in these operations. Interest exists because the vast majority of people prefer the immediate consumption of a good and are willing to pay a higher price for it.
Many are unaware that when buying in cash, that is, paying the full amount at once, there are discounts. The discount, simply put, is a bonus or gratification for the person who chooses to make a cash purchase, a since whoever sells the product will not run the risk of not having the installments paid and, in return, it offers this advantage to the client.
Let's understand how the discount amount on cash purchases is calculated.
Example 1. When purchasing a video game in cash, the seller offers a 15% discount. If the value of this video game is R$ 900.00, how much will a person pay if he chooses to make a cash purchase?
Solution: First, let's calculate the discount amount.
Discount calculation.
15% of the value of the video game.
We know that the person who makes the purchase in cash will have a discount in the amount of R$135.00.
To determine the amount to be paid, simply enter the original value of the product minus the discount amount:
Amount paid: 900 – 135 = 765
Therefore, if the person chooses to make a cash purchase, they will pay R$765.00 for the video game.
Example 2. Felipe's father decided to buy an LCD TV worth R$2500.00. There was the option to purchase the TV in 12 installments or in cash with a 10% discount. Felipe, who had followed the math classes very well, told his father that buying in cash would be more advantageous, as TV would be cheaper. What will be the amount paid for the TV, if Felipe's father decides to make the purchase in cash?
Solution: Let's calculate the discount amount.
Discount calculation.
The discount amount will be BRL 250.00.
Calculation of TV value in cash purchase.
Value = 2500 – 250 = 2250
Therefore, if Felipe's father decides to make the purchase in cash, he will save 250 reais and will pay R$ 2250.00 for the TV.
Using the calculator, calculating the discount becomes even simpler. Look:
Enter the value of the product, then the key that represents the subtraction operation, then the percentage of the discount followed by the % key. For example, the calculation of the amount paid for Felipe's father's TV can be done as follows:
2500 – 10% = 2250.
