Do you know what digital genres are? If the subject is still new to you, don't worry because Escola Kids will explain this story to you!
We already know that the various textual genres they are always at the service of communication. Portuguese speakers are constantly immersed in different communication situations and for each of them there is a genre that adapts better. For example, if you intend to write a letter or an e-mail, you will certainly make language choices more suited to the occasion. If you want to leave a note on the fridge door, you will probably use a simpler vocabulary, and the structure of your text will also be succinct and to the point.
We cannot specify the number of genres, but we can recognize and differentiate between them, as there are elements in each of them that allow this identification. As genres go hand in hand with communication, there is nothing more understandable than that they end up adapting to the news in the world, especially technological innovations. The advent of information technology - and especially the internet - changed not only social relations, but also linguistics. New genres emerged, while others underwent significant changes. This is the case of e-mail, which is nothing more than the evolution of the letter, as it does not require paper and pen, as well as postage via the post office. The recipient receives it instantly, unlike the letter, which could take days and days to reach your reader.
Digital genres can also be found in communication established on social networks
Digital genres can also be observed in the typical communication of social networks: posts, shares, tweets, among others, they prove that the advent of digital technology has made the genres undergo adaptations. We prefer the shortening of texts and the use of hypermedia and links that enable the creation of an interesting hypertext. It is essential for us to analyze digital genres, even because they greatly influence the practices of digital reading and writing, causing a great impact on communication. It is worth remembering that, although new genres are emerging, many are nothing more than the transformation of old genres, which gained, thanks to the dynamism of digital communication, new features.
Did you just see how communication and technology are connected? The ones who gain from so much novelty are us, the speakers, who are always privileged by discoveries in the field of language.
