Times of crisis are times of opportunity. For many, this type of positive assessment is nothing more than a mere speculation that seeks to alleviate an era marked by great difficulties. However, some historical evidence suggests that this is not mere talk, often superficially applied as a “booster” for managers, salespeople and marketers. Over the ages, several significant discoveries have taken shape in scenarios of conflict and desolation.
Farmers have known for a long time that the use of land causes its complete erosion. Therefore, in some cultures, we observed the use of techniques that could overcome the difficult problem of lack of land. Already in antiquity, some reports suggest that the Egyptians used the ash from the seeds to fertilize their fields. In the medieval world, on the other hand, peasants gave up greater production to employ the crop rotation system, which lengthened the time of land use.
In the late Middle Ages, the Black Death was a terrible epidemic responsible for the death of millions of Europeans. However, not summarizing the perception of a tragedy, some historians try to relate the impacts of this event with creations that were of great importance. Among them, some believe that the sharp death of copyist monks was something that motivated the development of the technology necessary for the development of the first presses.
In the colonial period, American slaves were subjected to a heavy routine of service that made their lives not pleasant. In many situations, aiming to forget that state of penury, they improvised songs that softened that daily experience. Gradually, that improvised musical experience would be largely responsible for the creation of musical elements that would give rise to the blues, one of the most important genres of music American.
Between 1914 and 1918, World War I marked one of the most violent and devastating episodes. In fact, the military technology employed there was responsible for a staggering number of deaths and injuries. It was precisely in this context, where the treatment of highly infected wounds was difficult, that researcher Alexander Fleming developed his research. In 1928, he discovered penicillin, the first antibiotic used in medicine.
In fact, there could be several examples that would manifest man's ability to create the new amidst such unfavorable scenarios. Currently, the crises experienced in the economic and environmental field can also open the way for new inventions. Not being a being trapped by the transformations that surround him, man also reinvents himself and demonstrates his strength as a promoter of History.
