Fossils. What are fossils?

You've probably heard of fossils, but do you know what they are?

You fossils they are records of living beings that existed in the past and that, in some way, were preserved. These living beings can be preserved in rocks, sand, ice and, believe me, even inside another fossil. the dinosaurs are the big stars when we talk about fossils. Who hasn't dreamed of discovering a huge dinosaur skeleton?

However, it is important to remember that fossils are not just bones. A footprint can be a fossil and even feces. Yes, faeces can also fossilize, in which case they are called coprolites.

All living beings die and we know that their remains quickly disappear from nature. In order for this living being to become a fossil, it cannot be decomposed after its death. Therefore, it must be quickly covered by rock fragments (sediment), frozen or imprisoned by substances produced by plants (amber).

You paleontologists (scientists who study fossils), by studying the fossil record, they can imagine what the environment was like and who inhabited the Earth thousands of years ago. Thus, they can perceive the transformations that have taken place in living beings and in the planet itself.
