João Pedro received a watch as a gift for his 7th birthday. He loved the gift but was saddened by not knowing how to look at the time, as his watch was not digital, but made of hands.
João Pedro's godfather asked him not to be sad, as he would teach him to look at the time on the beautiful clock. He said that the smaller hand will mark the hours and the larger hand the minutes. When the larger hand points to the number 12, the watch is showing the exact time. See the examples that João Pedro's uncle showed his nephew.
The clock is showing 1 o'clock.
The larger hand points to the number 12 and the smaller hand to the number 1.
The clock is showing exact 2 o'clock.
The larger hand points to the number 12 and the smaller hand to the number 2.
Note the following clocks:
The smaller hand is pointing to 5 and the larger to the number 1. In this case we say that they are 5 hours and 5 minutes.
João Pedro's godfather also taught that the clock is used to keep time.
1 day is 24 hours
1 hour has 60 minutes
Half an hour corresponds to 30 minutes
1 minute is 60 seconds
