Through the text "Infinitive inflected”, you could see about some particularities that indicate when we should inflect, that is, conjugate the verb according to the grammatical person. So, as our goal is to make you increasingly broaden your knowledge of facts related to the language we speak, from now on we will learn about the cases in which this flexion does not occur.
As with the cases we studied above, those related to uninflected infinitive, the little rules are also present, so, how about getting to know them?
Cases linked to the uninflected infinitive are also subject to pre-established rules
# There is no infinitive inflection when the reference does not address any specific being:
To respect to elders is a virtue that must be practiced.
The verb respect, in this case, refers to everyone in general, not someone in a specific way.
# Flexion should also not occur when it is equivalent to an imperative:
Deliver the test, students, as time has run out.
As it is an order, or even an order, the bending is not demarcated.
# Composed of a subject represented by an oblique pronoun:
Order-you clean the whole school.
We have that the highlighted oblique pronoun represents the subject.
# Acting as the main verb of a phrase:
we wish greet the bride and groom right here.
We found that it is a verbal phrase in which the main verb is demarcated by the verb expressed in the infinitive (to compliment).
# In cases where the verb is governed by a preposition to form a phrase with verbs demarcated by “be”, “begin”, “continue”, “finish” etc.
The student continued to complain.
What we witness is a verbal locution in which we see the presence of the verb “to continue” (continued), followed by a preposition.
