Haiku. Haikai: Shall we play at making poems?

Let's play at making poems?

Did you know that Literature can be a fun and interesting art? Well, playing with words, some poets discovered a formula for writing small poems, composed of just three verses. The Haikais, as they became known, are an ancient art and have this name because their origin is Japanese:

hai = kidding

Kai = Harmony

In Japan, the main haiku poet was a man named Bashô. He was writing his haiku at a time when writing was one of the main amusements and pastimes of 17th-century Japanese man. The oriental meter (three verses, the first and third verse being pentasyllables, that is, formed by five poetic syllables, and the second verse is heptasyllabic, formed by seven syllables) also found representatives here in Brazil, and the poet Paulo Leminski was one of those responsible for the popularization of the gender in our country.

the palm tree trembles
clap for her
that she deserves

house with wild dog
my guardian angel
wags the tail

The art that was born in Japan also has its place in Brazil. Writing a Haikai is quite a challenge!

all said,
nothing done,
I look and lie down

this life is a journey
pity i am
just passing through

my friend's garden
Everyone happy
even the ant

Paulo Leminski

The main characteristic of a Haikai is simplicity, and you may already know that in the simplest things inhabits the most beautiful, this is the mission of haiku poetry: to sharpen what the spirit reads contemplative. Haikai is like an instant snapshot of a moment that won't come back. It's a little poem about the simplicity of things, but it has a great concern with language, since getting the words to fit the meter is the main challenge. Did you like it? How about trying?
