Imagine that, approaching a beautiful weekend, you feel like you need to have fun (as most people do), but suddenly you run out of options, not knowing where to go. Calm down, it's a very simple fact to be solved, because when you flip through a few pages of the newspaper, you'll notice that there is a space in it you will find several leisure options, and more: suppose you are interested in watching a movie that is currently on, you did you know that in this same space of the newspaper there are comments, exposition of opinions about the plot, generally carried out by knowledgeable people on the subject? Like the idea?
Criticism is defined by a textual genre of an argumentative nature
Ofact is that the critic, now conceived as a textual genre and also known as critical review, is inserted in the journalistic environment, whose intention is to describe a cultural object, be it a film, book, CD, theater play, among other modalities. Thus, through the comments made by the critic, the reader can feel
motivated, as well as you can completely change the expectations you have about what you want to share, feeling unmotivated (a), depending on the nature of the comments made.
Because it is a genre, argumentative par excellence, is a slightly freer structure when compared to the others. Thus, in the case of a theatrical play, the reviewer emphasizes about the author of the text, acting cast, ticket price, exhibition time, among other factors. If the object of analysis is a CD, for example, the points to be commented on will concern the name of the artist, record label, number of tracks, component musicians, price, release date, etc.
With regard to the language used, we usually say that it can vary, considering the characteristics of the public to whom it is directed, that is, it may be that it is a younger, more laid-back public, but it may also be that the reference is defined by an audience with a more cultural level high. Thus, there must be a balance as to the nature of the vocabulary to be used.
Through all this knowledge that we have just acquired here, it is important that you know that the purpose of criticism it is to make the reader appreciate or not appreciate a certain cultural object – a position that he will only adopt after becoming acquainted with the comments made by the reviewer himself.
